Prevention and Public Health Fund Detailed Information
August 2017
The Prevention and Public Health Fund (PPHF), established by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), supports almost $900 million in prevention grants from the Centers for Disease Control to states, counties and cities, non-profit health-oriented groups and tribal organizations throughout the USA. Without the Fund, current efforts to prevent infectious diseases, such as influenza and measles, and chronic illnesses, such as diabetes and heart disease, would be crippled.
This would lead to higher healthcare costs and needless suffering. With recent efforts to repeal the ACA, the future of the PPHF is in jeopardy. TFAH, along with our partners, have launched an effort to highlight the critically important work that PPHF supports. Featured below are a series of materials showcasing PPHF investments at both the federal and state level.
Amongst the most recent materials are a special analysis of what states stand to lose in the event of PPHF’s elimination, one-pagers listing state-specific PPHF funding and job creation, maps summarizing how much each state has received from the PPHF (both in Fiscal Year 2016 and from Fiscal Year 2010-2016), and a sign-on letter in support of the PPHF supported by 333 national and state organizations. In addition, we also list our historical PPHF materials, such as a general backgrounder, a slide show with quick facts and graphics, state fact sheets, a fact sheet on the PPHF-funded Tips from Former Smokers campaign, and a list of over 1,100 state and local organizations that support the PPHF.
