Report: Tennessee prepared for disease outbreak

Tennessee was one of a handful of states to score an eight on a 10-point indicator for preparedness, according to the report from Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The other states were Maryland, Massachusetts, Vermont and Virginia.

Half of the states and Washington, D.C., scored five or lower. Arkansas had the lowest score of two. Kentucky also had a low score with three.

"Over the last decade, we have seen dramatic improvements in state and local capacity to respond to outbreaks and emergencies," said Jeffrey Levi, executive director of Trust for America's Health. "But we also saw during the recent Ebola outbreak that some of the most basic infectious disease control policies failed when tested."
