Warnings needed on sugary sodas?

Much was made last fall of the Food and Drug Administration’s plan to update warning labels on tobacco product packaging with larger, more graphic labels. We’ll hear more this summer as the FDA works against an October 2012 deadline for the new packaging.
Have the labels, though small, first put on packs in 1965, worked? And will more graphic ones work better?
I think the answer to the first question is yes, to a degree. Adult smoking rates have dropped from 46 percent in 1964 to 21 percent in 2009. And I think the answer to the second question is yes, for sure. More graphic labeling in South America has been shown to cut rates.
