Study: State, St. Tammany Parish better prepared for pandemic health emergency

With St. Tammany and the surrounding region paving the way, Louisiana is better prepared for a pandemic health emergency than ever before, according to a new study from a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit health advocacy group. In its fifth annual report, the Trust for America's Health agency awarded Louisiana eight out of 10 points for emergency health preparedness, an increase from last year's score of six. "We've used St. Tammany as a pilot sight to test some of our pandemic flu plans," said Dr. Parham Jaberi, a regional medical director for Louisiana's Office of Public Health who oversees St. Tammany. "And we've done a tremendous amount of work here that's been the basis for plans statewide."
