Bird flu pandemic estimated to kill 47,000

Nationwide, the Trust for America's Health projected a $683 billion economic loss, which is about 5.5 percent of the goods and services produced in the United States. As in other high-ranking states, Missouri would see the biggest losses come from its restaurants, hotels and other tourism and entertainment-related industries as people would be expected to cut back on discretionary spending and avoid large groups that could lead to infection.
